Two totally full houses at the Orihuela Costa Resort last Saturday heard amazing performances by the Costa's leading choir, Melody Makers International, along with many of the best soloists in the area. The sixty strong chorus, under the baton of director Nigel Hopkins, thrilled the packed audiences with songs from many of Lloyd Webber's smash hit shows including Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar, Cats, Evita, Aspects of Love, Starlight Express, Sunset Boulevard and many more.
Soloists Cindy Fitzpatrick, Jane Atkinson and Graham Cooke delighted with their solo songs, whilst special praise was due to the two youngest members of MMI, Verity Hall and Rebecca Holt who, as well as entertaining to a professional standard with Memory and Tell Me On A Sunday respectively, brought tears to the eyes of many in the audience with their rendition of Pie Jesu from LLOYD Webber's famous Requiem. Alyson Horsfall, Allen Millar, Bill Nicholson and Mary Beer all performed beautifully with the remaining solos.
The concert was brought to a fabulous climax with a medley from LLOYD Webber's greatest show, Phantom of the Opera, which brought spontaneous standing ovations from the entire audience at each performance.
The concert supported the local charity Reach Out - helping the homeless and needy, and the bucket collection after the performances raised €1527 for this most worthwhile cause.
