Thousands of happy shoppers at Zenia Boulevard were treated to some fantastic entertainment on Sunday when the Costa's leading chorus, Melody Makers International, performed three times in aid of the children's charity, Debra - The Butterfly Children. The charity supports those unfortunate children with the disease Epidermylosis Bullosa (EB) which leaves them with abject bruising or scarring - even to the slightest touch.
Melody Makers, under their conductor Nigel Hopkins, performed a superb medley of songs from both 'Phantom of the Opera' and the Abba movie 'Mamma Mia!' to rapturous applause from the thousands of shoppers who were enjoying an evening outing to the popular centre. Notable amongst the performers were both Verity Hall, who compere Simon Morton from Sunshine FM described as 'the 18 year old 'singing sensation', superbly soaring above the Boulevard with music from 'My Fair Lady', and Nigel Hopkins himself, who performed the Harry Secombe classic 'If I Ruled The World'.
Melody Makers will continue their 2016 support for The Debra charity (they raised €3,000 at their January concert) in two weeks time when they perform 'A Century of Popular Songs' at the Orihuela Costa Resort on 25th June. Tickets for both the afternoon (2pm) and evening (8pm) performances are available from La Ponderosa Gift Shop at La Zenia C.C.; also at the Card Place at both Punta Prima and Benimar, and at the Debra shops, San Fulgencio and Quesada. If Sunday was anything to go by audiences are in for some fabulous entertainment!
